'Solid' Start

So, today was the big day we were waiting for. Ananya had her first spoon of Baby Rice(The health visitor suggested starting on baby rice and then gradually moving on to veggies and then fruits.)
After the excited wait over the past few days, I cudn't wait this morning, to open her pack of rice. My mom called up at 11 AM to find out how Ananya took her first solids. I told her I was gonna give it to her for lunch.Ananya woke up from her nap at 12 noon. I took her to the living room, sat her in her cradle, brought her colourful Gerber bowl with a few spoons of baby rice in it. I gave her first spoon.Ananya had not warmed up yet. She resisted and pushed it out with her tongue.I waited a minute and then gave her the second one. She made a face to say,"What's this new thing that's made its way into my mouth?" and after reluctantly taking it in, smiled and smacked her lips."Ok so you deprived me of this so long ,huh?"she wanted to say.And then, there was no looking back. She was so comfortable with the whole thing. She pulled herself forward several times, grabbed the spoon from my hands and opened her mouth wide like saying,"What are these quarter spoonfuls you are feeding me mom?Give me the spoon and I'll show you how I can munch on it!".
And that's true! It's not the food that fascinated her. It's the new experience....the spoon, the new thick food, the bowl...As I saw Ananya smile and smack her lips, I shed tears, of joy, may be there was one tear that pricked me for a second,"Hey I'm not her sole food provider anymore!"The one that remineded me, it was time for her to WEAN.
