Annaprasana

So, it was finally performed yesterday!!!Annaprasana, the official start of feeding rice to a baby.We had a whole range of things placed on the ground, money, gold, food, book and pen, computer,some religious book and an idol.This is a part of the Annaprasana ritual and it has been followed for ages now, with the belief that, the first thing that the baby touches, is what he/she would show interest in, when he/she grows up.And guess what Ananya touched yesday..... the computer.No wonder!!!Any way, we believe this is something done for fun..And the, we tried to feed her the 'parvannam'(kheer)that we cooked and the tongue so used to pureed food, didn't like the feel of a grain of rice.She made a face like we'd fed her something bitter...spat it out, and we tried again and she cried.Oh what lies ahead for us.Would she grow up to eat pureed dosas,pureed chapathis, mashed vada, ground pizza, liquified samosas????Hope she gets to like normal food soon.....Otherwise, like our current North Indian and South Indian cuisisines, we will soon have to add pureed cuisine to our diet.
