Is HE there?

I happened to look at some of my old documents and found this story. This was written by Lalitha before Ananya was born.
She started with an intent of making a short story collection for Ananya ( akin to Panchatantra :-) . All the stories would be written by her. So far she has done two stories.
One of them is attached here:

IS THERE GOD
Somethings are nice to know: the rising and setting sun, the gentle morning breeze, the chirping of birds, the warmth of love and so many other things. One very nice thing to know is the presence of someone guarding you. Akhil lived in a village with his grandparents. It was a very small village, with very few people living there. He went to the nearby town, four miles away, to attend school. He woke up early, helped his grandparents with their daily chores, started for school, worked hard at his studies, came back home in the evening, played with his few friends in the village, and got back to his studies. He and his three friends who went to town to study, would leave home together every morning and come back home together. The four mile-walk was enjoyable for all the four of them. They would walk happily, enjoying the morning breeze, the tender rays of the sun, the fragrance of the flowers on the sides of the road, the various kinds of birds which perched on the trees and chirped, the small, sour berries which they collected from the trees on the roadside. This was their regular practice and they all enjoyed each other's company. Their parents also felt safe because the boys would help each other in times of need so there was nothing to worry about. Akhil was doing well at school and was loved by all his teachers. The teachers taught well, guided him in physical activities and helped him with anything he needed. He was happy with everything at school. But suddenly, Akhil was disturbed over a new question that came up in his mind."Is there God". He went to every teacher possible, with this question.Everyone answered"Yes there is" and his next question was"But I can't see Him?" and there was no answer. He asked his friends too"Have you seen God"? and they all answered"I have not seen Him", "But my grandfather says He's there","That's why we are all there".Akhil was not convinced. At home, before he went to bed,he asked his grandfather,"Grandpa!I hear there is God.I haven't seen Him.How come there is someone and I can't see Him". His grandpa patted his head lovingly and said,"God is there. He is everywhere. He created the universe and us all. God doesn't show Himself. He makes his presence felt. You will know. Now say your prayers and go to sleep."Akhil said his usual prayers and went off to sleep. He woke up the next day, and got ready to go to school. The morning was slightly cloudy and it was not a very pleasant day because of the uncomfortable breeze blowing. He, however, got ready for school and went to collect his friends. His friends said they were not keeping too well, because of the uncomfortable weather and so would not go to school. He was disturbed. He didn't want to miss school. His grandfather was hesitant to send him alone but Akhil him that he would be alright. And he set off alone. At school, it was not a bright and active day. The classes went on as usual and Akhil listened to all the lessons attentively, with an occasional disturbing thought that he would have to return home alone. The classes were over and the bell rang.He waved goodbye to his friends at school, and started walking towards home. The sky was cloudy and there was a strong breeze blowing. He was about to say something aloud but suddenly remembered that his friends were not with him. That thought made him feel uncomfortable. He hastened his steps, in an effort to reach home faster. But, the weather was all set to get worse. It suddenly turned dark and there was pouring rain with weird howling noises.Akhil was startled. He just didn't know what to do.It had become very difficult for him to continue walking. He could neither take shelter anywhere because there were no houses on the way.He tried running but it was pitch dark and he tumbled over something and fell flat on his face.He was terribly scared and started crying. The suddenly, he remembered his grandpa's words,"God doesn't show Himself to you.He makes his presence felt." He clasped his hands and uttered the words"Show me you are there".He then tried to walk a couple of steps and gradually felt the whole situation easing. He just trudged forward with the belief that there was God to protect him. The darkness ceased to intimidate him and the howling winds didn't scare him.The absence of his friends was not as much a botheration. He felt a caring hand leading him. After he walked some distance, he saw some light approaching him.A few steps forward,he heard some familiar voices. He ran in the direction of the light and was overjoyed to see his grandfather accompanied by some other villagers. He embraced his grandpa and didn't say a word. After a brief silence, his grandpa asked him," How did you manage it, my dear?" Akhil replied, "He made His presence felt".
