Ananya's 1st dose of vaccines July 4th

I took Ananya to the Doctor's, for her vaccination. She was happy on her way to the hospital, not knowing what was in store. I was preparing myself for this event for the past two weeks.I was as tension filled as I was during my exams, as a student. My preparation included checking out the weather forecast every hour on the internet, selecting an appropriate outfit for the baby so that she'd feel comfortable, calling up friends who've had their babies vaccinated, to get an idea of how it'd feel, about two weeks of intense research on the internet, on the topic of vaccination-pros and cons, debates etc.
And finally, on the big day, a tense mom walked her blissfully unaware baby to the clinic. The cries of other kids being vaccinated, scared me even more.I kept pacing up and down the clinic, reading posters here and there, to keep my cool. When our turn came, walked into the nurse's room, gave her a nervous smile and asked her if it'd hurt a lot.She said,'Yeah!babies, injections, but it'd protect them more than it'd hurt them' (as if I didn't know!).And then, she came out with two vials of the vaccine, one was the DTap/polio/hib and the other was the Meningitis C.She asked me to straighten the baby's leg and hold it tight .I did the same and turned my head away, shutting my eyes. She injected Ananya's leg, and there was silence for a second.I thought the baby wasn't gonna cry. Then came a shrill cry(the most painful one from her so far), and turned to look at her and she'd turned red.I was on the verge of tears myself.I held her close and even before she could calm down, the nurse pricked her in the other leg and there came another loud cry! A tender baby, two injections back to back. Hard on the baby and hard on the mom too.Ananya cried for a minute and then fell fast asleep! She gave me time to collect myself. The nurse suggested me to give her some Paracetamol once I got home.
I bought some 'Calpol' on my way home but didn't give it to her immediately.Didn't want to give her some medicine unnecessarily, if the pain didn't bother her too much.Waited for 2 hours. She didn't cry much. She smiled and played, though less than usual. So, thought , we could do without the medicine. But after about 2 hours she started crying loud. The injection was doing its job,it was beginning to hurt her.And I decided to give her the pain reliever. She had a dose and then, with some difficulty, fell asleep.I was hoping she wouldn't cry in the middle of the night because then, she wouldn't have enuf sleep. And luckily she didn't! She managed it well. She woke up in the morning, feeling okay , though she felt a lil hot. She smiled and played and cried as usual. So I take a deep breath, though the slight temperature continues to bother me.
A tender baby handles her first dose of vaccination!
